Attractions in Japantown

On top of the many sights and sounds and many shops that Japantown features, above all the hustle and bustle of the city and bright lights, there are parts of Japantown that are beautiful and worth seeing. With its beauty and history, the sights of Japantown can’t be ignored and with its packed and rich enclosure, you can be sure that there is something to see everyday that you are in San Francisco. These famous sights include the Konko Church of San Francisco, the Pioneers Monument and various spas and meditation centers.

The Konoko Church of San Francisco is located on 1909 Bush Street and features a very modern and simplistic design to its structure. It was built in the 1960’s by those that emigrated from Japan to the United States, so it contains a very rich history for those who want to know about their ancestors, those curious about the religion and those who practice the religion. The church has a very beautiful layout and design with many serene rooms that are great for meditation. The church features a golden symbol over the main altar which symbolizes the golden light that pours from the spiritual heart.

The Pioneer’s Monument, located at 500 Fulton Street is a testament to the survival of the people of California and the state itself. It is one of only a few free-standing structures to survive the devastating earthquake of 1906. The symbols on top of the monument, the shield, spear and the bear are all symbols of the state. Beneath those symbols are caricatures of some of the states early founders and pioneers which include John Stutter and Sir Francis Drake, both pivotal to California’s development. As well as being fascinating itself, there is also a long-standing rumor that there is a time capsule buried beneath it.

If you are looking for a place to relax, Japantown has that in spades. There are several places to go and relax and just let the stress melt away. One of these places is the International Orange Spa Yoga Lounge, located at 2044 Fillmore Street, on the second floor, which combines the therapeutic nature of normal spas with the relaxing and invigorating nature of yoga. Other places that offer great relaxation and comfort are the Kabuki Springs and Spa, and the Crème Spa.

Offering many things to see such as monuments, churches and spas, Japantown has much to offer in the way of excitement and recreation as well as relaxation and is a great place to visit if you want to experience some great sights and fun or just relax.
